The problem with the old model
A farmer in rural Kisumu County typically has no visibility into what maize or tomatoes are selling for in Nairobi — they take whatever the local broker offers, often 30–40% below market rate.
What DollarShamba changes
The platform lists real-time buyer demand and prices directly to farmers' phones, lets farmers list produce for sale, and includes a digital wallet so payment happens on confirmation of delivery rather than weeks later on a broker's schedule.
Early results in Kisumu
Farmers using the platform for at least two full seasons reported average income increases of around 40%, driven mostly by cutting out one or two layers of middlemen and by better timing of when to sell.
What's next
DollarShamba is adding weather advisory and input-financing features in 2026, aimed at helping farmers plan planting cycles around more reliable data, not just guesswork and tradition.
